The The beach of As Sinas, in Vilanova de Arousa, was the setting for a new cleanup day organized by Amicos and Pan do Mar, an initiative that is already in its fourth edition and reflects the joint commitment to caring for the environment and protecting our seas.
On this occasion, 25 volunteers —including environmental agents, association staff, and collaborators— joined the action, collecting 76 kg of waste along the coast. Among the materials found were plastics, glass, paper, and even nearly 200 cigarette butts, which represent one of the most harmful and common forms of pollution on our beaches.
After collection, the waste was sorted and weighed with the goal of making visible not only the quantity but also the diversity and origin of the waste, raising awareness about the impact of consumption and human habits on the natural environment.
Who is Amicos and what work do they do?
Amicos is a non-profit association based in Galicia, which has been working for over 20 years in the social and labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, and their families.
Their mission focuses on providing personalized support so that each person can develop their abilities, improve their quality of life, and actively participate in society. In addition to their social work, Amicos has a strong commitment to the environment and sustainability, promoting environmental education programs, nature activities, and projects for the conservation of the Galician coastal environment.
Beach cleanups are one of the initiatives where they combine both objectives: social integration of participants and environmental awareness, generating a positive impact both for people and the planet.
Pan do Mar’s Commitment
For Pan do Mar, collaborating with Amicos is a source of pride and responsibility. For four consecutive years, we have actively supported and participated in these cleanup days, convinced that the union between companies, social entities, and citizens is key to achieving real change.
