The tuna we use in our “Pan do Mar” brand belongs to the Thunus albacares (light Tuna), Katsuwonus pelamis (Listado) and Thunnus alalunga (Tuna) species.<\/p>\n
The light tuna and the Listado come from the eastern mid-Atlantic, corresponding to the Canary Islands, Azores and Cape Green (Senegal Corridor) fisheries. The Bonito del Norte is acquired from the Cantabrian Sea Guilds in northern Spain. The supply of raw material coming from fisheries with relative proximity to the factory avoids long transport distances through the world with a consequent reduction of CO2 emission levels.<\/p>\n
In both cases, the fishing is done by small boats belonging to local coastal communities, using traditional and highly selective craft methods. The tuna is caught by pole and line (pol & line), the recommended method by environmental advocacy organizations such as Greenpeace and WWF on the ground that this is the fishing method that ensures the sustainability of the species by helping to limit catches, avoiding overfishing and minimizing the problem of discards by non-commercial catch size, while ensuring the protection of marine species at risk.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
